And a Story about Friendship
Once Upon a School DayOnce upon a time, my best friend, Marie, and I zoomed bicycles around our neighborhood for hours every summer. We walked to school together on the first day of high school. Marie threw up before we left the house. Then on our way home, we both giggled incessantly and decided we’d survive.
Not Once Upon a Time Days Anymore
Our grown-up lives and grown-up jobs haven’t been so perfect. We lived far away from one another. Both of us had to establish new friendships. Alas, the work environment felt more like the James Bond movie Live and Let Die. No friends around to chit-chat with, whine to, or ask for help. No one around to say it would be okay if they threw-up … How could we establish adult friendships in the workplace?
All grown-up and working—Marie living in another state. I felt like throwing-up.
